The fairing for the Herschel and Planck launcher carries the ESA and Arianespace logos along with that of the International Year of Astronomy (IYA) 2009. The theme for IYA is "The Universe - Yours to Discover". ESA's Herschel and Planck missions are two major contributions to Astronomy being launched this year.

The fairing was mated with the launcher on 10 May 2009. This photograph was taken in the final assembly building at the launch site in Kourou, French Guiana.
