No. 132 - Mission Operations Update21 Apr 2010 09:14 Report for Period 27 March to 16 April 2010 The reporting period covers three weeks of Rosetta mission operations. Few instrument tests were performed in preparation of the active payload check-out (PC12), which will start in the next reporting period. The MIRO instrument was activated on 6 April for a validation of new on-board control procedures (OBCP) that apply a software patch. The ultra-stable oscillator (USO) of the Radio Science Investigation (RSI) was un-muted for a short period of time on 14 April.
During the reporting period, mission operations have been conducted with support of the ESA New Norcia (NNO) ground station.
At the end of the reporting period (DOY 106) Rosetta was at 202.7 million km from Earth (1.35 AU) and the one-way signal travel time was 676 seconds. The distance to the Sun was 303.6 million km (2.024 AU). Mission operations will be dedicated to the final tuning of the instruments in preparation for the flyby of asteroid Lutetia in July 2010 and for the deep space hibernation. The navigation campaign for the Lutetia flyby will begin at the end of May 2010. Rosetta continues cruising towards asteroid Lutetia. The Rosetta spacecraft is configured in normal mode, in which it will nominally remain until the deep space hibernation entry in June 2011.
